Back              Installation of Sportsman STOL Kit

I think there are as many opinions about STOL kits as there are pilots that fly them.....I will not add to that pot, I will, however, give some very helpful advice to those who are trying to install this kit on their aircraft.
TIME TO INSTALL:  The Sportsman kit can be installed in  55 - 60 hours.

DRAWINGS:  There are several items that the drawings do not cover adequately.

INBOARD FAIRINGS

The inboard fairings are on the drawings but you are left to yourself to decide how to attach them.

The fairing will need to be trimmed to fit. The Underwing Fairing will also need to be trimmed and reshaped to accommodate the new contour.

Attachment:  I use the same pull rivets that are used on the leading edge.  Note:  This requires a very light touch when countersinking!

WING TIPS/ NAV LIGHTS
Installation of the nav lights into the new wing tip can be accomplished without the use of the original rivnut configuration.  Here, I use a combination of plain rivets, used in conjunction with washers, and nut plates.  (A piece of thin rubber, placed over the rivet and washer, allows bucking the rivet with the washer held in place.)
A flush rivet used with the nut plates makes for a very smooth surface for the nav light cover plate to fit over.
